Welcome to UA4PIM:
Project and Innovation Management for Ukraine
Project Reference: 57808575
For over 15 years, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts has worked closely with three Ukrainian universities — National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” (NUZP), Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA), and West Ukrainian National University (WUNU) in Ternopil. Within the framework of the German-Ukrainian Higher Education Network (DUHN), this long-standing collaboration is to be secured, expanded, and developed into a University Alliance (UA) focusing on project management, digitalisation, innovation, and sustainability.
Through the DAAD-funded project, the University Alliance for Project and Innovation Management (UA4PIM) will be established and directly integrated into the European Partnership for Project and Innovation Management (EuroPIM), with which the Ukrainian partners have been cooperating since 2015.
The project’s second key goal is to expand and modernise English-language education and research in project management, digitalisation, innovation, and sustainability in Ukraine, as these topics are central to reconstruction, European integration, and the modernisation of the higher education system.

What is our scope, goals, and outcomes?
The aim of participating in the German-Ukrainian Higher Education Network (DUHN) is to secure, continue and expand this partnership — with the three Ukrainian universities: National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” (NUZP), Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA), and West Ukrainian National University (WUNU) in Ternopil, into a university network, i.e. a University Alliance (UA) with a focus on project management, digitalisation, innovation, and sustainability.
This University Alliance for Project and Innovation Management (UA4PIM) is to be established through the DAAD-funded project and directly integrated into the European network „European Partnership for Project and Innovation Management (EuroPIM)“. The Ukrainian partners have also been closely cooperating with this network since its foundation in 2015. EuroPIM is a relevant network within the EU for the thematic fields of project, digitalisation and innovation management (see section „Project Partners / Cooperation Partners“). The cooperation takes place at the Master’s and PhD level and is supported by numerous companies as well as professional associations such as IEEE and IPMA.
The alignment between EuroPIM and UA4PIM is very strong and integrating both networks offers great mutual transfer potential.
The second key objective of the UA4PIM project is to expand and modernise English-language education and research in the areas of project management, digitalisation, innovation and sustainability in Ukraine, as these topics play a key role in the country’s reconstruction, European integration and modernisation of its higher education system.
The project partners also see the meaningful and purposeful integration of the project and its partnership into the DUHN network, by opening UA4PIM formats within DUHN, engaging additional (including associated) partners for UA4PIM and transferring project results to other Ukrainian universities.
Core Objectives
- Integration of Ukrainian Master‘s programmes into the Virtual Master School and the Digital Education Ecosystem (DEE)
- Create and pilot Master modules:
- Sustainable Project Management
- Sustainable Digital Transformation
- Human-AI Interaction and Collaboration
- Expand double degree agreements and curricular integration between Ukrainian and EU institutions
- Development of bridging qualifications (prep4projects) including microcredentials to support double degree readiness
- Strengthen digital infrastructure and implement the Digital Education Ecosystem (DEE) in Ukraine
- Support peer-to-peer mentoring and community building via an Alumni Network
- Develop Train-the-Trainer (TtT) programmes for Ukrainian university staff focused on English-medium, digital and project-based teaching
- Participation of Ukrainian lecturers and researchers in EuroPIM and in- ternational project management community events (e.g. IEEE IDAACS, E-TEMS, Kyiv PM Conference)
- Implement automated digital workflows for student mobility, recogniti on and planning (e.g., via the Student Journey Configurator)
- Connect UA4PIM with the German-Ukrainian Higher Education Network (DUHN)
Long-Term Impact
In the dissemination, utilization, and institutional anchoring of the new project management approaches, the project team is supported by the Ukrainian chapter (UPMA) of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) as well as by the Technology & Engineering Management Society (TEMS) of the international professional association IEEE. This also enables an impact on standardization and accreditation processes in Ukraine.
The University Alliance UA4PIM will further engage with stakeholders within the German-Ukrainian Higher Education Network, open its own formats to them and actively contribute to additional formats. In parallel, continued participation in programmes (Eastern Partnerships, KA171, Erasmus, BMBF) is planned to ensure the long-term and continuous development of the partnership.raduates need to learn how to work in interdisciplinary, international and intercultural teams, with specific communication competences (in English), dedicated project competence and a digital literacy in IT tools for collaboration, communication and project management. Universities in Armenia are expected to move towards project-based learning patterns but they lack such formats in the curricula. Furthermore, they lack the industry-university cooperation to make such projects realistic, innovative and workplace-related.
